Visiting Day

Lining A Field, 2007, Oil on Panel, 12x16

I must be brief today. The kids have only a half day of school and will be home around noon. If I were to actually get to work right away this morning, rather than fritter away the morning on the computer (like usual) I could get a respectable amount of painting done. So I am going to send you elsewhere, to check out a few blogs that I have been enjoying lately.

I have to put on my thinking cap when I visit Musings on Neurology and Lenitives in Simplistic Art Whatever Sunil Gangadharan is talking about over there is fascinating though and somehow always gets back around to art. His work is really interesting as well and worth a look.

Casey Klahn found me awhile ago and it seems we have much in common, including a similar color sense as well as an infatuation with pastels and Wolf Kahn. The photographs he has posted of pastels make me drool. Every time I visit The Colorist I come away swearing that I have to get out my pastels and spend some time with them again.

I don't recall how I came across Hazel Dooney's blog, Self vs. Self, but am sure glad I did. She is evidently a very successful and well known artist in Australia and I have the impression that she can kick some serious ass. If I knew her in real life, I am pretty sure I would be totally intimidated by her in a hundred different ways. From what I gather, she has worked primarily with enamel paints, but due to health issues she has recently switched to different mediums and I look forward to watching and hearing about that transition.

Now go visiting, but don't forget to come back to me, your first true (blog) love. Heh.

For some reason that I can't figure out, the link to Casey's blog doesn't work. So I'll try it here: thecolorist.blogspot.com. Otherwise cut and paste. Sorry.

The link to Casey's blog doesn't work for similar reasons as the link you left on my blog a few days ago. In this case, you typed lt;a href="<br />http://thecolorist.blogspot.com/"target="_blank">, which doesn't work because of the extra <br /> in there. Either that, or your Blogger editing stuff screwed up for you.

Just make sure there are no extraneous characters when you're making a link and you'll be fine.

Chris, where do you see br? I don't even know what that means and wouldn't include it in the link. I have looked at the link that I typed in a number of times and it is exactly correct. Besides, blogger always notifies me in bright red type when the tag in incorrect and won't publish the post or comment until it is right. Which is why I didn't even type out the whole br thing above-it wouldn't publish.

Also, the link in the post and in the comment for the Colorist are exactly the same, with the exception of the target/blank code for a new window (which I left out at one point and it still didn't work) in the post. The link works in the comment and not in the post. I blame blogger!

An extra space in the tag was the problem. I didn't notice it because of the erratic line breaks.

Anyway, now the link works in the post.

If you have Blogger set to convert all line returns, then any line returns in your text will be replaced by <br /%gt;, which is how HTML does line returns. Sort of. It's complicated and I don't want to hurt your tiny brain so I won't go into it.

The important thing is, watch out for extraneous characters in your URLs and you shouldn't have a problem. And I agree it's Blogger's problem: Blogger should know better than to put a <br /%gt; in a URL since that will never, ever be right.

To be totally safe you could build your own links, by typing this:

<a href="http://www.crywalt.com/">Chris Rywalt's Website is AWESOME!</a>

Basically, URL between the quotes, link text between the >< signs. Works every time.

Never mind your tiny brain, what about mine? I keep being unable to type the > and < things properly. Dammit!

My fingers don't work. I'm going to go take a shower and maybe paint. Computers suck.

Never mind all that, I am being overwhelmed by hits!
Thanks, Tracy.
Cool blue trunks, BTW.
I am wiping drool off of my pastels, now...

Glad my visitors are visiting you, Casey!

Sorry, did't mean to mess up your pastels:)

You got to share Casey - he comes calling on me too!

Lovely trees - really lovely!

Thanks Katherine. Despite including trees in nearly every painting I do, they are usually just a mass of color. So these were a bit of a challenge.

Casey does get around, huh?!

I think he likes to "share"! ;) (Are you reading this Casey?)
