Still Working......

Lavender Gambrel, 2009, Oil on Birch Panel, 8x10

I still haven't gotten the underpaintings done on the 40x60 panel. It's all prepped. sitting on easel #2, and is totally in the way. Whoops! Not gonna complain, still way more space here for this sort of thing than I had in the old studio. But twice while trying to get out from behind it after turning on the stereo, I bumped the back of the panel and nearly knocked it off the easel. It would be bad if it fell, certainly there would be damage. Must be more careful! Anyway, looking at my schedule I am thinking I might not be able to get to it until Monday, which will give me a week to get it finished, thereby certainly ruining my fabulous plan of no rushing to finish at the last minute this time. Bugger!

And yesterday I felt giddy at the end of the day. I worked on this painting: all afternoon and I am very pleased with it. Such a great feeling when a piece just flows out of me and when afterwards I can't recall any of the decisions I made, or even whether I was there or not at the time. Heh. Makes up for all the crappy, frustrating and unproductive painting sessions.

I will put up the official jpeg of this one next week sometime. I suspect that it's going to be a tough one to photograph and will probably end up lugging it two flights downstairs to the primo spot for photos and then back up again. Good times.

Both awesome works. Awesome, Tracy.

I knew the big one would be, too, just from seeing the underpainting.

You know... this might be my favorite one so far. Growing up in Texas, I've seen so many little country farms with all the buildings clustered together like that. This one really strikes a cord with me. I'm sure it will sell!

I have been reading your blog for some time and always very impressed with how much you produce. What a dedicated artist you are! A true inspiration...

Keep up the GREAT work!

I really like this painting and look forward to seeing the "official" jpeg. You're really staying busy. Nothing like deadlines!

The big painting is wonderful. It is interesting because there are more buildings, trees, etc. than what you usually put in your paintng. It is more complex.

Hi Tracy, I've been tickled by seeing the progression of your work and the change in your studio. Your work is an inspiration to us all. One question - where is that great spot for picture taking? Natural light? Outdoors?

Oooooh, I really like that bottom one.

Thanks, Casey. Well of course a fab underpainting can really get screwed up later, as I well know, but I had a good feeling that this one would be ok!

Haley, Thanks so much and glad you delurked. I love those little clusters of buildings, there are so many relationships to interpret and is such a challenge for someone like me who needs to simplify. And well, I am prolific it's true! Making up for lost painting time I guess!

Thanks, Sherri, yes thank goodness for deadlines, they sure help me along!

Patty, I am always hoping to include more elements and so I am pleased this one worked. It is way simplified though, I left out much from the original scene.

Thanks, Natalya!

Janelle, photographing the work is really tricky. If it's an overcast day I can do most of the smaller pieces upstairs in my studio near the north facing windows. The larger ones look better if I take them downstairs to where I used to shoot, and set the painting between two windows that are at 45 degree angles to each other. Natural, reflective light, but NOT outside.

Thanks Josephine, I am pretty dang happy with it too!

Thanks Melody!

Thanks Hattermad, I like dynamic!

I like them both, but that big one--wow! I can't wait to see a better image.

I haven't painted in almost two weeks--I've been way too exhausted from work. I may have to take some vacation days to finish the stuff for my show. Your discipline does help keep me inspired!
