Guess y...Chris, do you mean your special gesso mix? Guess you have been painting a lot! About time:)

Jayne, I guess I skipped explaining what I do with the sides. I used to stain them either with a dark color or clear, but didn't really like the look in combo with my paintings. Also, when I do the underpaintings, the paint gets everywhere, even if I have taped off the cradles. So now I do a coat of primer then paint the sides black. This looks good with my work and everyone seems to like it or at least no one has said that they hate it. I am not a big fan of painting on the sides, though sometimes it works. I think Jim Wolanin's paintings look good with the painting around the sides. But it would be a logistical nightmare for me because of the way I paint in layers.

Mom, I said that for dramatic effect. Doug and I have only had sex 3 times and there was never any bribery involved:)Tracy Helgesonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07510044613771862211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22266501.post-67441383901543122152007-03-01T17:39:00.000-05:002007-03-01T17:39:00.000-05:00You BRIBE Doug with sex?????? In f...I had never used gessobord until last month. In fact, I started by using the 2" deep cradled birch board. I think it was 11 x 14. Really liked it. Question though.

I used painter's tape around the birch sides to protect them from getting all messed up by the paint. I got a few small marks on it, but not much. Will you be painting the birch sides or giving them a light varnish (either with stain or clear)?

I've done lots of canvas gallery-wrapped stuff and even though I paint around the sides, some people ask what kind of frame they should get for them....as if the work is unfinished. So the birch sides, unpainted, even may appear more unfinished.

You know what I mean?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03922837232926592492noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22266501.post-65261854111413133442007-03-01T13:45:00.000-05:002007-03-01T13:45:00.000-05:00I'm jealous.
