I have to get right back to work when we get back from our family vacation in a few weeks so we'll see what kind of measures I may have to resort to!Tracy Helgesonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07510044613771862211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22266501.post-1153343389251512632006-07-19T17:09:00.000-04:002006-07-19T17:09:00.000-04:00I paint a lot of landscapes as well and have had p...I paint a lot of landscapes as well and have had problems with burnout. As you wisely suggested, giving yourself time to experiment and fail is an important lesson. It's easy to get into a rut where you deliver what your gallery(s) expect.

My other techniques for getting out of ruts are: 1) music--paint with music you've never heard before, something interesting; 2) have a dialog. This may sound weird, but sometimes--when I paint an area I've painted a million times--I think of the place as a person and extend a dialog. The place is calm one day, vibrant another, etc. Good luck!Ed Terpeninghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08211416674089451891noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22266501.post-1153316753535286782006-07-19T09:45:00.000-04:002006-07-19T09:45:00.000-04:00Thanks, Amber, I know what you mean, I have not al...Thanks, Amber, I know what you mean, I have not always been a fan of landscapes paintings either, but thankfully, I often change my mind about things! Thanks for the observation about my colors.

Martha, I haven't had any time to work on the figures, unfortunately. I think figures, street scenes and objects, like still lifes things like that, would be imagery I would move on to. Someday, anyway.Tracy Helgesonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07510044613771862211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22266501.post-1153282557650451732006-07-19T00:15:00.000-04:002006-07-19T00:15:00.000-04:00You know, I almost never have a painting just come...You know, I almost never have a painting just come to me, although I often get into states where I am thinking about anything but what I'm working on. I like Blue Over the Water a lot, too-- it has the effortless quality you describe. If you were to move to another subject matter, do you know what it would be? How are the figure paintings (if you've had time to do any)?marthahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09691207583232829217noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22266501.post-1153276165971250252006-07-18T22:29:00.000-04:002006-07-18T22:29:00.000-04:00Tracy ,I love your subject to tell the truth I u...Tracy ,I love your subject to tell the truth I usually don't like landscape paintings, but you have a true gift of putting life and originality into an ordinary subject. That is why I keep coming back to look at your work
no matter what your process is, your inner colors are the important things surfacing on the canvasamberhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10326093692033355487noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22266501.post-1153265004077962932006-07-18T19:23:00.000-04:002006-07-18T19:23:00.000-04:00hmmmm.
